Why is it significant that the veil of the temple was torn in two?
1. No man could do it
What we know about the veil of the temple
“The Bible doesn’t tell us how thick the temple veil was, but ancient Jewish writings say it may have been as thick as a man’s hand — about 3 or 4 inches
It was 60 feet high and 30 feet wide
It was huge and heavy, so when it tore from top to bottom at Jesus’ death, everyone knew God Himself had done it.”
2. It was God who tore the curtain
This meant that no longer would people need the high priests making animal sacrifices for sin
Because of Jesus’ death, we can all come directly to God for forgiveness of sin
Luke 23:46 – Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last
Jesus' death was for the forgiveness of sin, our sin
